Childhood Dreams

Research at PerkBox says that a “huge 64% still wish that they were doing their childhood dream job as adults.” When the realities of adulthood emerge, we often forfeit our childhood dreams. We get busy paying bills and making a living and we think our dreams are out of reach. Of course, some dreams are not realistic (to be an NBA player, for example), but many are. If it’s fear that causes you to hold back from pursuing that dream or aspiration, I pray you will seek the Lord for His voice and direction.

When we were young, we held a dream,

Of rocket ships and endless streams.

We chased the stars, the open skies,

With ice cream cones and cowboy ties.

~

The world stood still, the days were long,

Our laughter danced, a timeless song.

But growing up, with bills to pay,

Our childhood dreams were swept away.

~

Dreams and life did clash and part,

As burdens veiled the open heart.

We locked away that daring spark,

And drifted from our youthful mark.

~

Yet in the quiet of the years,

A whisper calls through distant tears.

The dreams we buried, soft and shy,

Awake again—they never die.

~

And so, I wonder, deep and true,

What stopped the dreams we always knew?

They linger still, they resonate—

Oh, rise again; it’s not too late.

~

Take a step; the path’s still wide,

Let dreams return and walk beside.

For in their light, our spirits soar,

Like children by the stream once more.
